About The Tour
Founded in 1992 and known as the Modified Racing Series, the Rolling Thunder Modifieds were born out of a group of racers who desired to leave their local track divisions and take their IMCA-type modifieds on the road, touring across Virginia and the Carolinas. Comprised of drivers mainly from Richmond, Virginia, RTM would compete at tracks such as East Carolina Motor Speedway, Old Dominion Speedway, and Shenandoah Speedway, but would eventually expand their operations into South Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama in later years.
All in all, RTM has competed at 19 race tracks over the years, including participating in PASS’ Mason-Dixon Meltdown at Concord Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway’s Xtreme Racing Classic, and North Wilkesboro Speedway’s Fall Shootout. In addition, many RTM racers have gone on to have careers in larger series such as the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, ARCA and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
RTM has prided itself in it’s 20+ seasons as being able to deliver to fans and promoters across the Eastern Seaboard, exciting side-by-side racing, with some of the most unique cars that compete on asphalt.
Champions win on the road...there are no home games!
